We have taken a proactive stance
on environmental problems in terms of a critical theme of
management, as a company that is based in the environmental
city of Kyoto where Kyoto Protocol was adopted, and expands
our presence around the world. Specifically, we are actively
promoting the observance of environmental laws and conventions,
the thrift and effective utilization of resources and energy
in business activities, and the reduction of environmental
load resulting from the use of products that we manufacture.

We examine suppliers, change product
designs, and procure parts and materials in compliance
with the RoHS Directive. Applicable products are tested
and inspected for "RoHS compliance" against
the following standard. |

*Standards for "RoHS
Directive-Compliant Products" |
| [What is the RoHS
Directive?] |
| The RoHS Directive is short for
the "restriction of use of certain hazardous substances
in electrical and electronic equipment." As a directive,
it restricts the use of specific hazardous substances
for new electrical and electronic equipment marketed in
the EU on or after July 1, 2006, and restricts the use
of six substances, which are (1) lead, (2) mercury, (3)
cadmium, (4) hexavalent chromium, (5) polybrominated biphenyl
(PBB), and (6) polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE). |

We have further expanded applicable
substances of the RoHS Directive and have formulated "CCS
Green Procurement Guidelines" as a standard to take
the lead in procuring components and materials with the
environment taken into account. |
|
 |
| [CCS Green
Procurement Guidelines] |
| In these Guidelines, we prescribe
items and control standards for the reduction of environmental
loads of procured 24 substances (*Data
1) and strives to select goods of low environmental
load. In addition, we classify particularly harmful chemical
substances and other environmental load carrying substances
into level A and level B (*Data
2), and manages use and storage voluntary. |
