Development of a Plant Incubator
with an LED light source
Of the various factors that affect plant growth, such as light,
temperature, humidity, and carbon dioxide concentration, "light"
is the most important.
Keeping this in mind, CCS has developed a plant incubator,
which harnesses the features of LEDs to the maximum, based
on technology developed by Industrial applications.
We obtained very favorable evaluations for this plant incubator
from many fields, because it can fulfill various research
needs, which other exciting light sources could not.

Anticipation of a food or
an agricultural problem and an environmental solution Problems
A global food crisis is imminent, and the situation in Japan is exceptionally
alarming due to its extremely low self-sufficiency ratio of food.
Currently, both domestic and foreign researchers are actively exploring
measures to avert the food crisis. One of these measures, the "industrialization
of the agricultural sector," has come into focus as an efficient
means of producing vegetables, grains, and other crops.
Research findings from the environmental chamber serve as a stepping-stone
towards making LED-powered plant factories a reality. This will improve
the efficiency and stability of food supply by eliminating the impact
of the weather and other environmental changes. |

Compared
with other light sources, the LED has a relatively longer service
life, low power consumption, and radiant heat. In addition,
it has advantageous functional features such as the ability
to precisely control the "combination of wavelengths,"
"optical intensity," "lighting frequency,"
etc. It is therefore an excellent light source for plant growth.
It is known that each wavelength affects some aspect of plant
growth; for example, form-improvement by blue light, photosynthesis
reaction (production of an organic matter) by red light, and
seed sprouting by infrared light.
Moreover, it is also becoming clear that it is possible to improve
the nutritional value of an ingredient by changing the wavelength,
and promote the speed of growth by adjusting the lighting frequency.
LED is the most suitable light source for creating a high-testing
environment for plant growth more flexibly to obtain such research
results.
